Keyline Design & Water Management for Agroforestry Systems

Join this all-day intensive to learn the fundamentals of designing landscapes that maximize water infiltration to support agroforestry systems.

Instructors: Nick DiDomenico & Amy Scanes-Wolfe

Time: Saturday May 4th, 9:00am - 5:00pm

Cost: $80

Location: Partner Farm in West Longmont (details provided to registrants)

This session will be grounded in keyline design, using a deep understanding of topography and water patterns to design systems that support infiltration of water and the hydration of dry ridges. Topics covered will include local water patterns and history, how to read topography on the land and on maps, which types of earthworks are most appropriate for different kinds of situations, and design considerations for creating contour and off-contour swale systems. We will also explore how these techniques can be used to create savannah type ecosystems (with integrated trees, crops, and/or grazing systems). This session will take place at a partner property, using an actual designed earthworks system to help illustrate the points we cover. Access to digital notes included.

Please plan to bring your own lunch, a notebook, sturdy shoes, layers, sun and weather protection, and water.
