About the Event
This fall, we dug contour swales throughout the 50-acre dryland pasture at Yellow Barn Farm. In spring, we will plant 6000 fruit trees, shrubs, and nurse plants in the swale basins. Come help us revegetate the berms of the swales with a mixture of forage species and native grasses and wildflowers! These are seeded in early winter because many seeds need a "cold stratification" of moisture and freezing temperatures to germinate in spring. We will be spreading the seed by hand and raking it in across 18 swales. A good winter opportunity to get outside, get warm, and meet fellow volunteers! Dress warm and bring an extra rake if you have one.
We should be able to proceed even if it's cold, but stay tuned for weather-related updates.Â
